Deadly dangerous solar camping lantern with a fan and PowerBank
(Reverse Engineered Schematics)
Schematic - the deadly dangerous solar lantern with a fan and USB PowerBank function. One of the most dangerous products I've ever researched. This multifunctional camping device includes a spotlight, a diffused light lantern, a fan and a USB connector for charging mobile phones, tablets, etc. It can be charged using a built-in solar cell or mains. The mains charging circuit is only a capacitive dropper, so the whole device is not at all isolated from the mains. When charging from the mains, the USB connector has full mains voltage in it (!!!). It's not a malfunction, it's by design. Many USB chargers (such as iPhones) have a metal body connected to the GND of the USB connector. If you connect them to the lantern while charging from the mains, there is a 230V mains voltage in the metal body. USB cables and USB-powered devices are not designed for dangerous voltage and are not isolated. This lantern can turn every USB device into a death trap.
Lantern lit up
Demonstrating that the metal body of an iPhone 5 plugged into this dangerous lantern indeed has a full mains voltage in it. The 230V 60W lamp runs full brightness. Please do not try this, and do not even buy this lantern - risk of a fatal electric shock!
The multimeter shows the mains voltage in the metal case of the iPhone connected to the dangerous lantern.
Neon screwdriver lights up.
